What an adventure Precious Plastic Den Haag turned out to be! Over a period of 2,5 year, we went to big exhibitions such as ‘Change the System’ of Boijmans van Beuningen Museum and supplied many workshops for schools and individuals in several startup programs. We enjoyed all of it!

With these wonderful memories in mind, we retire from this project to pass it on to someone else. Main reasons for this decision are money and passion. First of all, let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room: money. We tried to find investors via startup competitions and programs. We’ve put a great deal of energy in all of this and that is how we lost sight of what we wanted to do most: creating and innovating. We focused on creating commercial products – never on products we really wanted to make.

So, what’s next? We are looking for people who are interested in taking over (parts of) our workplace, which consists of Precious Plastic machines, a lot of product- and market research (400hours!), a big social media platform and a network of (potential) partners. Op 30 juni eindigde voor alle bezoekers het festival. Met een mand vol bandjes en plastic begon bij ons juist de uitdaging! Na het plastic netjes gescheiden en verzameld te hebben zijn wij op pad gegaan naar Precious Plastic in Helmond. Daar heeft Jerry (Precious Plastic) het grondstof geschredderd en vervormd tot een zwarte ronde plaat. We zullen jullie over een aantal weken laten weten wat het is geworden. Kunnen jullie al raden wat het gaat worden ?

Vandaag is de eerste machine van Precious Plastic Den Haag klaar voor gebruik!

Op zoek naar een volgende uitdaging ben ik bij Precious Plastic gekomen. Het leek mij een leuk open-source project om aan te zitten, met vaardigheden waar ik nog nooit ervaring mee heb gehad (denk hierbij aan: lassen, elektrotechniek, etc). Zonder werkplaats, funding of netwerk zijn wij onder het mom van ‘we zien wel hoever we komen’ begonnen aan de eerste machine: de shredder. Tijdens week 5 kwam er voor mij een keerpunt. Nadat wij op een zonnige zomerdag het strand gingen schoonmaken, begon het project aan mij te groeien. Het was niet zomaar een machine meer, maar een tool voor een schonere wereld.
